Our members portray an authentic Civil War infantry company based on an actual company that was organized early in the war answering Lincoln's call for three year volunteers following the attack on Ft. Sumter. Company E, 2nd Vermont Volunteer Infantry, served with distinction in every major battle of the Eastern Theater from Bull Run to Appomattox.
We participate with other reenactors, Union and Confederate, in recreating Civil War battles and camp life, as well as doing annual living history educational presentations at middle schools.
As a member of the 2nd Vermont, you will gain the benefit of being a member of a California non-profit, public benefit Corporation. Company E is self insured, and offers a wide variety of activities that offer something for every level of reenacting, from authentic Campaign Style Tactical events, to Public attended demonstrations.
Our members also participate in reenactments in other settings in California, nearby states, and on battle sites in the eastern United States such as Cedar Creek and Gettysburg. Company E participated in the filming of "Gettysburg","Amistad" and several Public Education Films.
We use only authentic (usually reproduction) Civil War period uniforms and equipment, and strive to keep our drill, food, and living history presentations as historically accurate as possible. In order to maintain this level of authenticity, we ask all members to meet minimum equipment standards. (See Uniform Requirements and Vendor List above left).
We can provide you with the names of sutlers (vendors) selling needed items. We do have some loaner gear available and encourage family participation. We invite anyone interested in the history of America's Civil War era to join us (and tens of thousands of reenactors nationwide) in an endeavor which is both exciting and educational.
