What is Re-enacting Like?

Imagine spending just a few days a month back in the 1860s, experiencing life in an army camp during the Civil War! With re-enacting you don’t have to imagine it – you can live it! And you can experience it in a company of friends with a passion for this unique period of American history! Re-enacting brings the fun of working to develop team excellence like a sport and the camaraderie of the campfire at night, all without the real bullets and dysentery of the 19th century!

Who can Re-enact?

Anyone can re-enact! There are no limitations on gender or ethnicity. Anyone 14 years or older can re-enact on the battlefield with the permission of parents or guardians, and younger children can participate in non-military or musician roles in camp. We are a family-friendly unit, and many members of our company have grown up in the 2nd! Civilian roles are also welcome!

What Gear is Needed?

Re-enacting does require some equipment, but new recruits may take some time to accumulate everything needed in our company. To make things easier on new members we have a slop chest and armory from which they can draw equipment until fully accoutered. Be sure to talk to company officers before buying gear, as we try to insure our company is outfitted as the 2nd Vermont really was during the War, and a lot of inaccurate gear is available!

Safety!

Like any hobby or sport there are safe ways of doing things, and here in the 2nd Vermont safety always comes first! Re-enacting nationally has an outstanding safety record, and we strive to continue this tradition! We can teach you everything you need to know to re-enact safely!
